No Harm In Kissing. Rachel Hancock, 2025. |
I am always in search of inspiration when it comes to my artwork and photography. The creative mind never seems to switch off. So I love to look at photography books.⠀
Westography by Warren Kirk gives the reader “exclusive access to the homes and businesses of the last of a generation, capturing once-bustling industrial areas and the old inhabitants of back-street suburbia, along with garages, barber shops, fish and chip shops, milk bars, front gardens, sheds, and everything in between.”⠀
Warren Kirk’s photography in this book is fascinating. As a child of the 70s, I recognise many aspects of this suburban landscape. For me, there is something comforting about these vintage scenes but also a slight sadness that nothing ever stays the same.

I had to get this one. The title song of Absolute Beginners by David Bowie is one of my favourite songs. I also like Patsy Kensit, Sade and the Style Council. Great memories of the 80s. |

Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the artist of this street art. It was in a lane way just off King Street. If you know the name of the artist, please let me know so I can credit them. |

Street art on an electricity box (not sure exactly what it is). Loved the way the swimmer looks like he was going to dive into the dog's bowl. |

I have no idea what the stencil and stickers are representing. Just thought it looked interesting. |
This was my first time rummaging through this market. I saw it advertised on Facebook and thought it looked pretty good.
There was so much to buy but I was careful with what I purchased and only left with a few plants for my balcony and a kilo of red onions for my pasta sauce.
I enjoy taking photographs at the markets. There is always something interesting that catches my eye.
I haven’t been getting out as I did years ago, but I’m glad I went.
